Knowledge and understanding: the aim of the course is to ensure that students graduating from our department have English language knowledge in the range of CEFR B1-B2 as far as their grammar and reading skills are concerned.

Applying knowledge and understanding: by the end of the course, students should sufficiently understand the nature of the English verb tense system, the formation of comparative and superlative adjectives, the complications surrounding countable and uncountable nouns and the importance of pronouns to be able to pass the School of Science in-house grammar examination. They should also be able to read straightforward short texts on topics connected to computer science.

Making judgements: not applicable

Communication skills: not applicable (there is no written or spoken language component to the course as our undergraduate students are not required to communicate their science in English at undergraduate level. Core science subjects are understandably given priority over foreign language learning in the teaching timetable for this degree subject).

Learning skills: at the end of the course, and after passing the in-house English examination, students should feel more confident about taking their English to the next stage whether they decide to continue their university studies or enter the world of work.

The final test is carried out in computer laboratories using the SET system. The English I test for computer science is divided into two parts, A and B. Part A (duration 60 min.) must necessarily be passed in order to access part B. Passing part B (duration 30 min.) complete proof. The evaluation is automatic and immediately communicated by the system to the student. In each roll call both sides are held, in succession; students who have already passed the first part in a previous session must give only the second. __Attention:__ Students can request the recognition of the B1-B2 certificates (according to the Common European Framework) for the English Language I exam by filling in the appropriate form for the recognition of the APU - Pre-University Activities ([http:// di.unito.it/aputarm]). The form must be submitted online on your own MyUniTO space or to the Student Secretariat of the Polo delle Scienze della Natura ([http://di.unito.it/segreteriastudenti http://di.unito.it/segreteriastudenti]), in via S. Croce 6, according to the deadlines defined by the Secretariat, normally in mid-June of each year. Following a specific resolution, the recognized exams will be directly uploaded to the student's career and the student will no longer have to sit English Language I – mfn0590 – 3 CFU, which is part of the compulsory credits of the first year career plan.
